WABCO's SmartBoard unit brings new levels of ease and precision to trailer management, making them work harder for more profit.
WABCO, a world leader in the development and supply of vehicle braking and stability technologies, is no stranger to local truckers and with ABS a legal requirement on trailers, Wabco’s braking systems are bringing new levels of safety and efficiency to the industry.
According to Enoch Silcock, Wabco SA’s general manager, “the ability to monitor a range of trailer functions and conditions is important to improve efficiency on the road and reduce fleet operation costs. Until recently, every function that needed monitoring required either its own trailer-mounted device or a complex multi-purpose device.”
The new generation Wabco SmartBoard unites all these separate devices into a single, easy to access, easy to use multi-functional system that helps trailers operate safely and efficiently throughout their life, says Silcock. “Fleet owners gain from both improved trailer productivity and lower operating costs.”
Features of the WABCO Smartboard unit include operating controls and information in a single, logically configured system; simple operation and menu guidance using an easy-toread graphical display with only three buttons; a device powered via an internal battery that can be operated without power supply from the truck; an icon oriented display for clarity and simplicity; all main functions accessible with a single “click”; a mileage counter; a trailer EBS optical warning light for safety-related functions such as trailer overload and low tyre pressure, and nine-language options.
“SmartBoard’s diagnostic and system messages provide essential information about the operating status of trailer functions without the need for an additional workshop visit.
Air suspension operations such as lifting, lowering and changing of the lift axle are executed by the system without the help of additional devices. This not only boosts productivity but makes the driver’s work that much easier,” Silcock concludes.
